Avaldatud! Being published!

Toredad uudised! Sall, mida pildil näete, avaldati eelmisel nädalal briti heegeldamisajakirjas Crochet Now (väljaanne number 14). Mustri nimeks sai Amersfoort, sest salli lõnga sain kingituseks Amersfoorti kudujatelt, kui Hollandist lahkusin.

Kuidas see sall ajakirja jõudis? Mind inspireeris Sabrina - kudumisdisainer, kellega olen Zürichis tuttavaks saanud.

Great news! The shawl that you see on the photo got published last week in the British crochet magazine Crochet Now (issue 14). The pattern is called Amersfoort because I got the yarn as a gift from Amersfoort knitters when I left the Netherlands.

How did it get to the magazine? I got inspired by Sabrina - a knitwear designer I've met in Zürich. She has published her designs in several places, including Knitty. I decided to give it a try as well. That was in September last year. I had just finished this shawl and being happy with the result thought it would be a good candidate. In general it seems to me that there are way more knitting patterns and knitting designers out there than crochet ones. Plus in my opinion there are not that many crochet patterns out there that are actually nice - many are either ugly or very primitive. So getting noticed with a crochet patterns seems easier than with a knitting pattern.

As a next step I started to search in the internet crochet magazines that take submissions. I decided to stick with European magazines and since I write patterns in English, it left me only with British and Irish magazines. I stumbled upon Crochet Now and found an e-mail address from their website where to send the submission requests. I sent them the photos of my finished shawl and asked if they are interested in it. The reply came very quickly (in couple of days) and after some e-mail exchange we agreed that my shawl will go to April issue. I had to send the finished pattern and physical shawl to them by the end of January. Pattern had to have both - schematic and written instructions. I found free software Stitchworks to do the schematics.

After January I got contacted once by the editor who had some questions and after that the next contact was already a bit before publishing when they sent me the photo how the shawl will look like. Soon I should find the magazine from my mailbox and then I'll see how the actual pattern looks like in the magazine. I believe it will not be the last time I publish something!
